Value of Redwing Pottery
Redwing Pottery is amongst the most well recognized collectors pottery in the midwest and across the country. Known for its high quality and originality in the late 1800s and first half of the 1900s, Redwing crocks and pottery capture the down to earth practicality that Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and North and South Dakota are known for. The Redwing Company ceased production in 1967 and has become a popular collectors item over the last 15 to 20 years.
What makes Redwing truly distinguishable and valuable compared to other brands of vintage pottery is that much of the design and painting on these crocks, pots and dishes was original and done by human hand. It is very common to find two identical pieces of pottery from Redwing with an entirely separate look and painted desing on it. It is also not uncommon to find a completely original Redwing crock with a one-of-a-kind design on it. Unfortunately, it has also become quite uncommon to find these rare pieces in the marketplace, at least not without a hefty price tag attached to it.
The value of all Redwing crocks, pottery and other items varies from store to store and person to person. Below are some excellent collectors value books that I have come across:
Warman's Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide (very cheap & good < $3)
Warman's Red Wing Pottery (little more expensive but good, $12)
Collectors Encyclopedia of Red Wing Art Pottery (Very thorough, $13)
